When it comes to money, security and trust are very important. When inviting your friends to join Vent, one question that might naturally pop up is: “Is Vent safe to use?” Well, the short answer is yes.
Since 2021, thousands of Nigerians have trusted Vent to convert crypto into cash quickly and securely. From day one, we’ve been building a platform you can trust with your money. That’s why security is built into every part of Vent, from how we protect your funds to how we secure your data and monitor transactions.
But security isn’t just about promises. It’s about having the right systems, infrastructure, and safeguards in place to protect both your money and your data.
Here’s a closer look at how Vent Africa keeps your funds safe.
Vent Africa operates as a legally registered business in Nigeria. Our company is registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), the government body responsible for regulating businesses in the country.
Our platform fully follows all the necessary rules, regulations and compliance standards, including:
Protecting your personal information is very important to us. This is why Vent uses industry-grade encryption to protect your data.
Your information is protected using AES-256 encryption for stored data and TLS 1.3 for data transferred over the internet. But forget the big-sounding words. What it really means is that your data is protected both while it’s in storage and while it’s moving between systems.
Our security measures also include:
These systems work continuously to detect and block suspicious activity before it becomes a threat.
Some of the most important security questions people ask are: “Where is my money stored?” and “Are my funds safe on Vent?” So, let’s break down how Vent protects your funds with a high-security custody system that reduces risk.
Cold Wallet Storage
About 95% of customer funds are stored in cold wallets. Cold wallets are offline wallets that are completely disconnected from the internet, which greatly reduces the risk of hacking.
Hardware Private Key Protection
The private keys controlling the cold wallets are stored in Hardware Security Modules (HSMs) that meet FIPS 140-2 security standards. Errrrr, let’s break it down 😂. What this means is that the keys never exist in plain software form and cannot be extracted or copied.
Multi-Signature Authorisation
Any movement of funds from cold storage requires approval from multiple key holders located in different places, adding another layer of protection.
Full Separation of Customer Funds
Vent keeps customer funds completely separate from company funds. This means your deposits are never used for company expenses. Also, we do not trade with your funds, and your money always remains yours.
Vent maintains a strict 1:1 reserve policy, meaning that every unit of vUSD in your Vent wallet is backed by an equivalent asset in custody.
In simple terms: If your wallet has ₦100,000 worth of value, Vent holds ₦100,000 in reserves to back it.
To add even more transparency and protection for you, we’re also working toward:
We maintain a SafeGuard Fund to strengthen customer protection. The Vent SafeGuard Fund is basically our own internal insurance stash, funded from the money we make. It’s set up to cover losses in the event of a security breach on the platform, a system flaw, or an operational mistake.
However, it does not cover losses caused by sharing your login details, falling for phishing attacks, crypto price swings or transactions you personally approve.
Vent takes a layered security approach that combines prevention, monitoring, and quick responses. We also offer features such as One-Time Password (OTP) verification and Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) to help you protect your account.
Vent keeps an eye on the platform at all times to detect any unusual activity. If our system detects something suspicious, it can automatically freeze the account to prevent unauthorised transactions.
We also have a formal incident response plan that is based on global security standards, such as the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and ISO 27035. These standards help us figure out what’s going on right away, stop any threats, and review what happened afterwards.
For fiat (local currency) transactions, we help handle disputes and chargebacks through our banking partners. When there’s a blockchain-related incident, we work with law enforcement and blockchain analytics companies to track down and, when possible, recover stolen funds.
Security works best when both Vent and you play your part. Many modern attacks target people rather than systems, so you must take steps to protect your account.
Here are some important tips for keeping your funds safe:
At Vent, protecting your money and your data is not an afterthought. It is a core part of how we built the platform because more than anything else, we value trust.
In the words of our CEO, Chuks Abanum: “In a market where trust is rare and promises are cheap, we chose to build trust first. The kind that takes years to build. The kind that travels from one person to another without you ever asking it to.”
So if a friend ever asks you whether Vent is safe and legit, say, “Yes, Vent is safe and legit.” From our cold wallet storage and encryption to fraud detection and strict compliance standards, our platform is built to keep you and your money safe. So when you use Vent, you can do it with confidence knowing your security comes first.
